Context: the Expo Day of the Moroccan Retail Tech Builder
The Moroccan Retail Tech Builder is a national incubation and acceleration platform for retail start-ups. Its Expo Day showcased the first cohort of start-ups supported in the retail sector and its digitalisation. In addition, the event included a panel bringing together senior executives from large-scale retail and from retail technology.
Role
Moderator of the panel. The role first involved designing the panel. It then involved preparing the speaker briefs, the moderation questions and the running order. Finally, it extended to drafting the summary and recommendations.
Themes and lessons
The discussions focused on the realities of the digital transformation of retail in Morocco. They also covered its specific obstacles. These were low digital literacy, resistance to change, lack of consumer trust and the reaction of traditional channels.
- Enhance the value of the historical core business through data, digital transformation being first and foremost a matter of change management.
- Proceed through a manageable and iterative roadmap, enriched as results come in.
- Make internal collaboration a condition of success.
- Strengthen consumer trust through data protection and transaction security.
- Offer an experience that goes beyond the sale alone.
