Training and workshop design: structuring the programme before logistics

The consultation covers training and workshop design, as well as the design of seminars, panels and institutional events. It takes the form of a written note or a 60-minute videoconference. The deliverable sets the objective, the running order, the evaluation methods and the organisational points. As for the time frame, the note is delivered 5 working days after receipt of complete information. The videoconference slot, for its part, falls at least 7 days after booking (priority slot possible within 5 working days), Tuesday to Thursday.

Situations relevant to training and workshop design

  • A seminar is being prepared without a guiding question or a formulated expected outcome.
  • A workshop targets a still poorly defined audience, which blurs the choice of formats.
  • An institutional panel brings together speakers without a sequence or a clear allocation of speaking slots.
  • Logistics are progressing while the content and the running order remain to be designed.
  • A human resources department is preparing a training course and wishes to verify the consistency of its administrative plan.

Process

  1. The collection first covers the objective, the audience and the constraints of the programme. This step takes place asynchronously, based on the statement of intent.
  2. Next, ASKonsult formulates the guiding question and the expected outcomes. This formulation steers the entire training and workshop design.
  3. Structuring the running order then organises the sequences, speaking slots and formats. It takes into account the target audience and the constraints collected.
  4. The review then covers the administrative plan, the schedule and the budget. It verifies their consistency with the running order adopted.
  5. Finally, the debrief takes the form of a written note, transmitted asynchronously, or a synchronous 60-minute videoconference.

Deliverable

The deliverable consists of a design note or, by videoconference, a session record. It first sets the objective of the programme. It then describes the running order, followed by the evaluation methods adopted. Finally, it identifies the organisational points arising from the review of the administrative plan, the schedule and the budget. The note is delivered 5 working days after receipt of complete information. Before any delivery, ASKonsult submits the document to a final review.

Prerequisites

Training and workshop design relies on a statement of intent. The target audience and the envisaged budget and timetable supplement these items. They establish the constraints of the programme from the outset. The client transmits these documents through the secure area and is responsible for their accuracy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the note and the videoconference?

The design note provides a written medium, useful for sharing the programme with the speakers and the organising team. The 60-minute videoconference, by contrast, favours direct exchange on design choices. It gives rise to a session record. In both cases, the content covers the objective, the running order, the evaluation methods and the organisational points.

Within what time frame does the consultation take place?

The note is delivered 5 working days after receipt of complete information. For the videoconference, the slot falls at least 7 days after booking (priority slot possible within 5 working days) after receipt of the information, Tuesday to Thursday. These time frames remain indicative and run from receipt of a complete file. In addition, an admissibility check precedes any commitment, in order to rule out requests outside the scope.

Why does design precede logistics?

A seminar, workshop or panel without a guiding question or a defined audience has little effect. Logistics indeed depend on design choices: sequences, speaking slots, formats adopted. Training and workshop design thus first establishes the purpose of the programme. Material organisation then builds on this framework.

What role does the interactive assistance play?

An interactive assistance tool (IA-04) may support the completion of Template P-07 and Kit P-10. It explains the sections, clarifies what is expected and checks the completeness of the answers. However, the assistance issues no opinion and makes no recommendation. The analysis and the deliverable are the responsibility of ASKonsult, after human review and validation.

Which audiences is the consultation intended for?

The consultation is intended primarily for human resources departments preparing a training course. It also concerns educational institutions and professional associations. Finally, organisers of institutional events find in it a framework for designing a seminar, workshop or panel. In all cases, the consultation takes place before logistics.

What is the scope of the deliverable?

The deliverable informs the decision without replacing it. The consultation is indeed subject to a obligation of means and carries no guarantee of results. The client remains the sole decision-maker regarding the follow-up. In addition, the client uses the deliverable for its own needs, while ASKonsult retains ownership of its methods and know-how.

What follow-up after the consultation?

When the programme calls for structured work, the Facilitating a stakeholder workshop or panel package (K-20) takes over. When the need becomes recurring, the Reference subscription (A-01) offers regular support. In addition, the institutional communication (C-14) and organisation and management (C-20) consultations address related subjects. Finally, the interactive training courses in the catalogue cover, in particular, preferential origin, public procurement, crisis management, investment and generative AI at work.

Out of scope

The consultation does not include facilitating the training course or the event. It also excludes logistical organisation, which takes place after the design of the programme. In addition, engineering the financing of training falls outside its scope. The consultation thus focuses on the guiding question, the running order, evaluation and the review of organisational points.
