Self-assessing interpersonal skills
An interpersonal skills self-assessment establishes a level and guides areas for improvement. Indeed, these skills determine the perceived quality of a service as much as its technical quality. They are thus observed in specific behaviours. The grid is used in two stages: before and after a training course.

Areas covered by the interpersonal skills self-assessment grid
- Welcoming.
- Listening: in particular, rephrasing and questioning.
- Advising.
- Handling tensions: in particular, objections and disagreements.
- Relationship follow-up.
- Finally, a four-level scale, with no middle level, and the choice of three areas for improvement.
When to carry out an interpersonal skills self-assessment
The grid serves first before a training course or a period of practice. A second measurement then takes place at its end. The gap between the two then guides the choice of areas for improvement.
Its intended users include, in particular, sales teams and front-desk functions. The document also concerns managers who support their teams.
Instructions for use
The first measurement is first carried out alone, without seeking an ideal score. A second measurement then takes place at the end of the training or the period of practice. In addition, the gap between the two measurements guides the choice of three areas for improvement. Finally, these areas translate into observable behaviours, monitored with the manager.
Expected outcome
After the two measurements, each person has an interpersonal profile and three areas for improvement. These areas translate into observable behaviours. Consequently, support from the manager relies on concrete evidence rather than on a general impression.

Conducting a preliminary diagnostic interview
The preliminary diagnostic interview distinguishes the stated request from the actual problem. Indeed, a request framed in terms of a solution often conceals a problem located elsewhere.
